Overweight People Get Fit for Surfing

people get fit for surfing

Overweight People Can Get Fit for Surfing. Surfing is meant for the lean and overweight people have to face several obstacles created by their weight. It can be done.

The first problems of overweight people learning to surf is that in the process of most likely being sedentary and gaining weight, they didn’t increase strength and have lost flexibility. The strength is needed to push the body off the board and lift the body on one foot for a few seconds to get the other foot on the board.

Flexibility is a Key Issue

Flexibility is an issue because the first foot has to be placed flat on the board under the butt to stand on it. Overweight and a lot of others don’t have the flexibility to get the foot far enough forward on the board nor to place it flat. Without putting the foot flat, the surfer can’t stand up.

Overweight also causes most people agility issues. When a surfboard is moving through the water at high speed after catching a foam wave, there has to be balance and some agility to stand up. This is usually derived from being active in other sports, exercise classes, or other balance activities like biking or even hiking.

Losing Weight Requires Commitment

Losing weight necessitates discipline. A person has to have a strong “why” to change their eating habits and start eliminating the foods and maybe quantities they are accustomed to. My books can start people on the right track for losing weight and building strength, especially The 3 Week Plan. A person needs to get in a groove and then it becomes much simpler after they have eliminated their hunger pangs.

Flexibility is developed with a few good exercises. Squats are the best and they can be executed without weights. 60 a day is a good target. Push ups are primary and 40 a day is a good target. Stamina is necessary and a person can start by walking 10 minutes a day and build to an hour a day. More aerobic exercises like biking, swimming, hiking, tread mills, aerobic classes and lifting weights should be target exercises.

Realistically, the person should commit for three months to notice appreciable changes in all categories. As a person develops in all areas, they are getting closer to surfing fitness. In the process, people are also opening a whole new lifestyle and unlimited new opportunities.
