Surfers Get Lean for Better Performance

surfers get lean

When looking for ways to improve your surfing consider Surfers Get Lean for Better Performance. There are many reasons lighter is better.

If you are surfing on a soft top or long board, your weight does not affect the surfboard. On a short board, more weight sinks the low volume board and makes it more difficult to paddle. Short board surfers want to be lean and strong.

Beginners face the difficulty of being overweight because it includes other issues. When people put on weight, they are probably not exercising and lose their flexibility and strength. This is a problem for all surfers.

What is the Power to Weight Ratio

There is a power to weight ratio discussed by surfers which asks whether you have the strength to lift your body off the board. This appears when executing the pop up. Beginners without strength for their weight nor flexibility cannot stand up on the surfboard.

Getting lean requires a negative calories balance in your diet. Check to see what your weight status is on the Body Mass Index calculator. The best way to begin losing weight is eliminating the offending foods and addictions. We are lured into high calorie dense foods because they are convenient and so tasty.

Eliminate sugars, white flour, and cooking oils. These ingredients are found in white bread, pasta, pizza, pastries, desserts, sodas, energy drinks, snacks, packaged goods, and meals from drive through restaurants. These are high calorie dense foods that are convenient to eat and our brain loves them.

What Are the Right Diet Foods

This leaves lean protein, vegetables, leafy greens, fruits, nuts, olive or coconut oil and means more food planning and preparation. Have a weekly shopping list and plan meals in advance. Eliminate the high calorie dense foods from your home, office, and car. Carry healthy snacks to the office and when driving.

Surfers want to get strong. The best three exercises for training the right muscles and developing flexibility are push ups, squats, and dead lifts. Squats and dead lifts can be started without weights. They build leg strength and flexibility in the hamstrings, buttocks, and lower back.

Losing weight and getting stronger is the professional surfers goal to becoming more competitive. They cross train out of the water as much as they spend time in the water. It works for amateurs as well.
