Senior Surfers Can Have Fun
Senior surfers can have fun learning and practicing surfing. The more active seniors have been in their lives, the easier it is to learn and practice. Sometimes the surfing experience encourages seniors to get in better shape.
The Physical Aspect
Surfing is physically demanding, but anyone can build the sport specific needs with in the water and out of the water exercise. The main physical demands are flexibility, upper body strength, and stamina. Each of these can be improved with simple exercises.
Surf lessons begin with a dry land portion to explain the techniques and then the water portion to practice. The main techniques are lying on the board and paddling correctly. Then students learn a standing up technique, and then students ride to the beach.
Techniques Can Be Practiced Often
Senior surfers can learn the techniques and ride on the first day. After that, they can practice often as possible while doing the on land exercises to improve physical capabilities. The on exercises can be stretching, push ups, and aerobics. Each can start with minimum engagement and grow with progress.
Senior surfers enjoy the thrill of catching waves and the full body exercise. Few sports deliver the fun and work out like surfing. Just the beauty of being out doors and in the ocean drives the passion for many surfers.
Senior surfers can take lessons with mates, friends, children, and grandchildren. I have had many 3 generation groups. The beauty of surfing is everyone is in the same spot and no one gets left behind.
