Preparing to Surf the First Time
Surfing is fun and physically demanding. Preparing to Surf the First Time can include some physical routines that make execution in the water more successful.
Lean is a big advantage for surfing. Normal weight can be measured on Body Mass Index calculator used by medical and physical training field. It categorizes underweight, normal, overweight, and obese. If you are obese, chances are you will not be surfing soon.
Start with Strength and Flexibility
Surfing demands strength and flexibility. The surfer does a pop up by pushing up on the board, bringing a foot underneath their butt and standing on one foot as they lift their hands off the board and bring the other foot forward. Therefore, the strength to push up and stand on one foot for a few seconds is required. Push ups are the best exercise.
Flexibility is needed to perform the pop up. When people spend most of their day sitting, the muscles in their hamstrings, buttocks, and lower back tighten. Squats and deadlifts without weight to start are the best exercises for loosening these muscles. You should be able to put your palms on the floor without bending your knees. Bending over and grabbing your ankles while pulling your head closer to you legs gives a good buttocks stretch. You will feel it.
Stamina is Necessary for Progressing to Longer Sessions
Stamina is important for longer sessions and progressing. Aerobics provide the best cardiovascular development. If you have been sedentary, start walking a half hour a day and then an hour a day. Jogging, swimming, biking, hiking, and treadmill are all excellent. It takes a while to build stamina and progress. Keep with it.
You should be ready for success in a lesson at this point. I advise my students once they have taken a lesson to practice the pop up in their living room. All the other physical requirements can be engaged to improve surfing and improve your life style.
