Oceanside Surf Lessons Help Beginners

Oceanside surf lessons help beginners to progress and enjoy a new recreation. Beginner surf lessons are taught near the shore in small foam waves so even kids feel safe. When new students have mastered the fundamentals, they can start paddling further out for bigger waves.

Surf lessons are great for learning because this sport is hard to learn on your own. It is also a source of recreation that can be enjoyed in vacation spots all over the world and for the rest of your life. New students find that it is great exercise and might also be a hint that they could be in better condition.

Learning the Fundamentals of Surfing

There are several techniques beginners learn and most of them are important to progress and that are used even by advanced surfers. The first is rolling over on the surfboard correctly so the feet are in the back and the body is balanced in the middle. Many students take getting on the board for granted and get tossed as soon as the wave arrives.

Catching waves takes patience and focus. Most beginners rush the process because they are too anxious to get their hands on the surfboard and stand up. One thing at a time. There is no rush. The student paddles until the board is in front of the wave with quick strong paddles. When the surfboard is in front of the wave after three or four strokes, he puts his hands on the board.

This is where many students make their next mistake. The hands have to be placed in the man’s push up position next to the chest while the chest is still on the board. Many students reach out in front of them after paddling and go to an immediate pushed up position. At this point the ride is over. They turn the surfboard over or push the nose underwater.

The next crucial step in the beginner pop up is for the student to put their foot under their butt flat on the surfboard. This allows them to stand on the rear leg, raising their hands, and easily place the other foot in front of them near the nose of the surfboard. The posture has to be with the feet shoulder width apart and the hips and shoulders square to the front.

Riding to the beach is easy in the right posture. The surfboard goes straight and the student doesn’t need to do a lot of balancing. At this point the student is read to advance if they desire and paddle out for bigger waves.
