When on vacation, Oceanside Surf Lessons for Beginners is the perfect tourist activity. So many people have surfing on their bucket list and Oceanside has a great beginner beach.

Beginners start with riding foam waves in just waist deep water. It avoids lots of anxieties about swimming, deep water, and big waves. The foam waves roll in after the real waves have broken on the outside.

The Beginning Fundamentals

The beginner rolls over onto their surfboard as the wave approaches and paddles to get in front of the wave. Then they execute a beginners pop up and ride to the beach. After getting comfortable and competent, the beginner can paddle out through the foam to turn around and catch bigger foam waves.

Some beginners make it to real waves in their first lesson. As the bigger foam waves roll in, there are real waves reforming as well. The real waves are only 2′ to 3′ tall and are good introductions to real waves. They also help the surfer build comfort and courage.

Surfing is physically demanding. Flexibility is the biggest issue for beginners. The best prep exercises are pushups, squats, and dead lifts. The latter two can be done without weights. They help loosen the hamstrings, buttocks, and lower back for the pop up.

Surfing is a recreation that can be enjoyed in many beach communities throughout the world and for a lifetime.
